I am Panthira tis Kyniga, Panther of the Hunt, or Panthera de Venatu, depending on if you speak Greek, English, or Latin. I prefer using either my English or Greek name. I am 14, but that doesn't mean that I cause trouble.

My parents raised me and my twin in a cottage in the woods, where we would hunt for our dinner and live away from modern society. They taught me to read, write, and speak Greek, English, and Latin; although I have some issues with reading and writing in English and Latin because of my dyslexia.

Growing up in such an isolated way, I'm not used to interacting with other people. Nor am I used to being in the city. If we meet, please be patient with me. I may seem strange, but I promise I'm nice.

A Chance Meeting After Dark: Panthira and Kieren

thelightsideofdark:

He smiled a little back at her. “It’s no problem. I grew up on these streets so i know how rough they can be, especially at night.” He hesitated when she asked about seeing him again. His gut reaction was to say no. Hanging around him wasn’t the most safe thing to do, and she was just a kid. But he also knew what it was like to be friendless and without a home. So in spite of his doubts he found himself nodding. “Sure.” He dug in his pocket and found a business card, he handed it to her with a tiny smile. “Thats the restaurant I work for. I’m there most afternoons.”

Panthira accepted the business card with a smile. “Thanks. I’ll try to find time to stop by. It was nice meeting you.” She began heading the rest of the way to Daenerys’ home, happy that she was possibly making a friend. She turned around once to wave at Kieren. Then, she headed inside, praying that Daenerys wouldn’t be up waiting for her.

Kieren just nodded a little. He knew far too much about being in a bad home, and he would never wish that fate on anyone. “Well I hope everything works you for you.” He finally said. He walked with her almost to Daenerys house, were he stopped. He had worked too long and hard to keeping his identity safe. He wasn’t about to accidentally blow his cover by marching right up to the DA’s best friends house. He nodded a little in the direction of the house “I trust you can make it from here?”

Panthira nodded. “Thank you for caring enough to do this. I know there aren’t many in this city that would have walked a strange teenager home.” She looked in the direction of Daenerys’ apartment and then back at Kieren. “Is there somewhere I might be able to see you again, maybe not in the middle of the night? I’ve enjoyed speaking with you, and so far don’t have many friends in this city. If you don’t want to see me again, that’s fine, I understand.” She smiled at him; although she doubted that Kieren would want to see her again, a part of her hoped she could find a friend in this man that had shown her kindness.

He follows her when she begins walking, keeping up with her longer strides. “oh, i know Daenerys. She’s a criminal justice lawyer isn’t she?” He mutters under his breath “and friends with the DA” He shakes his head a little, no need to get nervous, he was just dropping off the kid. He wouldn’t have to even see Danny. Besides, no one knew the identity of ghost, and right now he was Kieren.

“She told me she prefers her job as a social worker, but yes she’s a lawyer too. She’s been really kind to me, though neither of us are sure how long I’ll get to stay with her.” Panthira sighed. She wished that, if she had to live with a family, she would at least get to stay with someone that tried to understand her. So far, no one had tried taking her away from Daenerys, but she knew that it wasn’t exactly proper for a social worker to take in a stray for an extended period of time.

He just smiles a little, “Well its nice to meet you Panthira” He also looks around when she does. “Well I know this city like the back of my hand, as well as the people in it… Who are you staying with?” He realizes after he says it how prying his question is, but its too late now to retract what he said. He shakes himself a little. Obviously he is more tired then he thought, he only ever starts talking without thinking when he is exhuasted.

Panthira nervously returned the smile.“I’m staying with a woman named Daenerys for the time being. But I know the way, just not the address.” She started heading in the correct direction, expecting that Kieren would follow. She made sure to move at a normal pace, rather than the speed she used when traveling through forests.

He just raises a skeptical brow, but doesn’t push the issue. “I would feel better making sure you got back to your house safety, and my name is Kieren.” He offers her a hand to shake. “And what is yours?”

Panthira bit her lip before saying. “Please don’t make fun of me. My parents were…..eccentric. I’m called Panthira or Panther. I answer to my name in Latin only when I have to.” She nervously shook hands with Kieren, glad that he didn’t seem to want to cause her harm. She still stayed alert, knowing that sometimes people were really skilled at hiding their true intentions.

Panthira looked around for the first time since running into Kieren, trying to figure out where she was so she could figure out how to get back to Daenerys’ appartment. Once she was sure she knew the way to go, she sighed. “It’s this way. I can’t give you the address or anything, I know locations by their surroundings rather than street signs. But I do know where we’re going.”

A Chance Meeting After Dark: Panthira and Kieren

thelightsideofdark:

Only briefly glancing at the book. “yeah I know the stories, my mother used to read my sisters and I the greek myths… and thats the most bullshit story about your supposed friend, if i’ve ever heard one. But you know what, I don’t even want know whats really going on.” He notes how she reads so carefully. He berates himself for even playing with the idea. No, its just late and he is tired. There is no such thing as magic or monsters. He runs a hand over his face and checks his phone. He curses under his breath, he missed a drop off, meaning he will have to pick up an extra the following night, and he will have to cut the price. He shakes himself before asking, “do you need help getting home?”

Panthira accepted her book back, and put it back in her backpack. She then looked at the stranger, confused when he said she was lying about her sort-of-friend. “He isn’t much of a friend, but I really do know someone with the name Percy Jackson. Maybe his mom saw the books you mentioned and named him after that. I don’t know. But I’m not lying.” She watched him carefully, hoping he would believe that she wasn’t lying. When he asked if she needed help getting home, Panthira looked at him questioningly for a moment before replying. “I can manage on my own. But if you’d feel more comfortable with me not being alone, I suppose I wouldn’t mind the company. Although, if you do walk with me home, I at least want to know your name.”

He raised his eyebrows. What in the holy hell was she going on about? She didn’t seem mentally unstable… but then again, maybe she was. He froze when she cursed in greek. Okay, that was not normal. He had been forced to take a little greek and latin in high school, so of course he had done the only sensible thing and learned the curse words. “what did you just say?” His voice slid up an active higher in surprise. Of course he would be the one to find a crazy person out in the middle of the street.

Shit?” she translated in a questioning tone. Panthira took a deep steadying breath. “I have a sort of friend named Percy Jackson, but from what I know of him, he wouldn’t write books, so I assume that the books you’re talking about are different.” She then pulled a book out of the backpack she always carried, it was small and paperback. The cover said Apollodorus The Library of Greek Mythology. She opened to a page. “As for Laistrygonians. They are from Greek mythology. Odysseus encountered them.” She began reading aloud from the book, “So he, Odysseus, sailed on until he arrived at the land of the Laistrygonians, where he put in, mooring his own ship last in line. The Laistrygonians were cannibals and their king was Antiphates.” She read slowly and carefully, not wanting her dyslexia to cause her to mess up now. She offered the stranger the book, open to the page she had been reading from. “See, I read about them in a book.”

He shuffles his feet, bristling a little when she mentions the foster home. “I see… is that why you were out in the first place? To get out of your foster home?” His gaze snapped from the ground and back to her face when she mentioned the giants. He raised an eyebrow “Aren’t those from those Percy Jackson books?” He didn’t miss the fear. Obviously she was covering something up, and her little added on statement was very transparent. Kieren’s life rested on his ability to read people, and something was not right about this girl.

“I don’t like being trapped by four walls.” Panthira admitted. “I’m allowed out and about, so long as I say where I’m going and about how long I’ll be gone. I think, if I were to sit inside all day, I’d go mad. My home was, as I mentioned, different.” She noticed the stranger look to the ground, and wondered what he was thinking about.

Not long after he looked back up and said something that completely surprised her.“Wait, he has books about him? How….what….No way. It must be a different Percy Jackson. There’s no way he could have written about himself and had it published, he doesn’t have the focus to do something like that……..skata” she muttered that last word. Well, now she had done it. She should have just said yes and left it at that. Now this total stranger knew she was a freak. If she ran, maybe he wouldn’t put her in a mental home for it. Then again, she was curious to how he would respond to what must seem like total craziness.

Freedom Lost - Panthira and Daenerys

Dany nodded. “Sort of. I prefer social work more than anything, but I am a trained lawyer and I do often get called on for people who cannot afford a lawyer.” They came up to the security office, and Dany ducked inside, emerging a moment later with the bow and quiver. She handed them to Panthira. “There you are. The restaurant is just around the block.” She smiled again. “I should be fine, but thank you.”

Panthira nodded. “So you work to help people? I can respect that. From what I’ve been told, there aren’t many in the world like that.” Panthira let go of her camp necklace to grab her bow, a large smile of relief upon her face. She quickly and skillfully unstrung it, put the string in a side pocket on the quiver, and placed it in the quiver with her arrows. She then slung the quiver onto her back so that it rested just above her deerskin backpack. “So long as you’ll be fine. You’ve been so nice to me, I don’t want anything to happen to you.”

thelightsideofdark:

He noticed the hesitation and suddenly wondered where she had learned to fight. It was obvious that she was about to say more than she thought the ought to. Kieren pretended not to notice and nodded a little. “There are a lot of drunk fools out at this hour.” You frowns a little. “You really should go back home, before you get into trouble… One drunk is bad enough, but if there were a group of them” He shakes his head a little.

“Home, like I have one of those…..where I live just isn’t what I consider home, it’s very….different from where I grew up.” Panthira hoped he wouldn’t push further on that matter, after all, not many people grew up in a cottage in the woods. “But I was on my way to my foster person’s home when I encountered the drunk, and have nothing against heading that way again.” When the stranger mentioned the dangers of a group of drunks, she shrugged. Her hand went to her camp necklace as she said casually, “It can’t be any worse than a group of Laistrygonian giants armed with exploding cannonballs……….” Fear showed in her eyes the moment she realized what she said. Trying to cover it up, she added hastily, “Or so I’ve read.”
